Here is what to expect in your garden, on your phone and when you reserve.

Which soil types can I use it in?
Stake is intended for vegetable beds in sandy, loamy or clay soil. Make a pilot hole in hard or stony ground, then settle the soil against both moisture pads. Watch how readings change after watering, since soils hold water differently.
How many Stakes do I need per bed?
Start with one in a representative spot. Add another where soil, planting or watering differs across the bed. Each Stake measures the soil touching its pads.
Does Stake need Wi-Fi?
No. Your phone reads Stake over Bluetooth Low Energy when you are nearby. The optional plug-in Base uses Wi-Fi to collect readings from up to 24 Stakes within about 60 m, so you can see them away from home.
What happens to the battery in winter?
The solar cap charges a small rechargeable cell, which lasts about three weeks without sun. Short days, shade and snow reduce charging. Keep the cap clear and check the battery level in the app.
Which phones will the app work on?
The free phone app is planned for iOS and Android. It needs no account and works offline when you are near your Stakes. We will publish supported system versions before shipping.
Where do my readings go?
Readings stay on your phone unless you add a Base. Base connects through Wi-Fi so you can check readings away from home. The phone app requires no account.
Can I refund my deposit?
Yes. The deposit is refundable in full until your order ships. Email hello@stake.example.com with your reservation number to request a refund.
When is the balance charged?
When your order ships. The price shown for a reservation is the deposit charged now. That deposit counts toward the full price, and shipping costs are charged with the remaining balance.
Which countries will you ship to?
The US and Canada first. We will announce any additional countries before taking reservations for them.
What if April 2027 slips?
We will update the launch timeline with the revised plan and explain the delay to reservation holders. Your deposit remains refundable in full until your order ships.
