Launch timeline
From a probe on the workbench to a box on your doorstep. Dates still ahead are our plan; if one slips, we change it here first.

Bench prototype
The first bench probe took soil moisture readings in November 2025.
Ines Marr and Tomas Kell built the first bench probe at Fieldbench in November 2025. It gave them a starting point for testing soil moisture readings before making an enclosure for the garden.
Ines worked on the electronics while Tomas worked on the enclosure and app. The bench probe was an early test, with outdoor trials still ahead.
Done
Forty prototypes in twelve gardens
Forty prototypes spent spring 2026 in twelve gardens. The trials exposed problems with frost, condensation and Bluetooth range.
Fieldbench tested forty prototypes in twelve gardens over spring 2026. The first cap cracked in frost, condensation appeared in the second enclosure, and Bluetooth range was too short behind sheds.
Those failures shaped the next enclosure and radio work. The trial gave Ines and Tomas specific problems to address before ordering tooling.
Done
Enclosure tooling ordered
Fieldbench ordered the enclosure tooling in July 2026 after the spring garden trials.
Fieldbench ordered tooling for Stake’s glass-filled nylon enclosure in July 2026. The enclosure work followed the frost and condensation problems found during the spring trials.
Ordering the tooling moved the project toward repeatable parts for the engineering validation build. Parts from the tools still need checks for fit and sealing before production.

Engineering validation build
A build of 200 units is under way in October 2026. Fieldbench plans to finish this stage by October 30.
The engineering validation build is under way with 200 units. Ines and Tomas will check enclosure fit, sealing, solar charging, sensor readings and Bluetooth range on assembled Stakes.
October 30 is the planned completion date. Parts that do not fit, leaks or radio problems could require changes and another round of checks, moving the date.

Radio certification
Radio certification is planned for December 2026, after engineering validation.
Fieldbench plans to submit the radio hardware for certification in December 2026. This stage involves lab testing and the documentation needed before shipping the wireless product.
December 15 is the target date. Lab availability, failed measurements or changes to the radio hardware could require another submission and move the schedule.

First production run
The first production run is planned for February 2027, following validation and radio certification.
Fieldbench plans to assemble the first production run in February 2027. The work includes checking incoming parts, assembling units and checking sensor readings, charging and enclosure seals.
February 20 is the target date for this stage. Delayed components, unfinished certification or failed assembly checks could move the run and affect the shipping schedule.

Shipping to reservations
Orders with reservations are planned to ship in April 2027. Deposits remain refundable in full until shipping.
Fieldbench plans to ship orders with reservations in April 2027. This stage includes final checks, packing and handing orders to the carrier. The remaining balance is charged when each order ships.
April 15 is the target date. Production delays, failed final checks or carrier delays could move it. Reservation deposits are refundable in full until shipping; contact hello@stake.example.com with questions.
Hear when it ships.
Two emails: one when reservations open to the waitlist, one when your Stake leaves the workshop.
